Welcome to Sociology Compass

Welcome to Sociology Compass, an international journal publishing peer-reviewed research articles and surveys of current research from across the entire discipline, with the aim of providing topical and significant research on a monthly basis. 

Sociology Compass has recently expanded its scope to publish original research alongside its renowned programme of state-of-the-art review articles. Under its new scope, the journal has a mission to help researchers progress their careers and advance the discipline by showcasing timely and important empirical work to a wide audience. Original article submissions are welcomed across the full breadth of sociological topics, using both qualitative and quantitative methods.

The Review Articles in Sociology Compass are commissioned, well-written pieces explaining important debates, published under the following sections:

Sociology Compass provides an ideal starting point for both specialist and non-specialist, offering pointers for researchers, teachers, and students alike, to help them find and interpret the best research in the field.

Sociology Compass is inviting applications for the role of Co-Editor-in-Chief (empirical research articles) and Associate Editors (review articles)

We are excited to be seeking a Co-Editor-in-Chief (empirical research articles) and two Associate Editors (review articles) to build on the journal’s strong foundations and continue to develop Sociology Compass as a core community resource.

Announcement: New Editor-in-Chief for Review Articles, Dr Zarine L. Rocha

New Editor-in-Chief for Review Articles

We are delighted to announce that from 1 August 2022 Dr. Zarine L. Rocha joins Sociology Compass as co-Editor-in-Chief for Review Articles.

Zarine L. Rocha is a sociologist, specializing in issues of race and ethnicity, multiculturalism, diversity and identity in Asia and the Pacific, with a focus on mixed race/mixed ethnic identity and belonging.  She has worked in academic publishing for over a decade, and is currently the Managing Editor of Current Sociology, an official journal of the International Sociological Association.  She previously worked as Managing Editor for the Asian Journal of Social Science at the National University of Singapore.  Zarine is an honorary research fellow at the University of Auckland, New Zealand an and affiliated researcher with the Department of Sociology, National University of Singapore. She publishes regularly in peer reviewed journals, and her recent work includes The Palgrave International Handbook of Mixed Racial and Ethnic Classification (Palgrave MacMillan, 2020, with Peter J. Aspinall).

We are thankful to our outgoing co-EiCs Professors Rebecca Kissane and Julie Kmec, who have led the journal editorial team since January 2017. We are grateful for their dedication, guidance and hard work over the years, and for their part in ensuring a smooth hand-over to new editorial team members.

Sociology Compass is growing. In October 2021 we also welcomed Dr Ali Meghji to the team as co-Editor-in-Chief, leading a new primary research section. Please join us in welcoming our new editorial team leads, and watch this space for new developments!
